The superwhisper license: how many devices, the free trial, activation and refunds

By Ryleigh Newman · Published October 10, 2026

One superwhisper Pro license works on all your devices: its docs say unlimited Macs and Windows PCs, plus your iPhone and Android phone. New users get 3,000 words of free access to every Pro feature, then the app falls back to the Free plan with nothing deleted. Every individual plan, monthly, annual and lifetime, has a 30-day refund window from the first purchase.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about superwhisper with that in mind. Every fact about superwhisper here comes from its own docs, read on October 9 and 10, 2026.

This app is completely free. You don't have to make an account. There are no subscriptions, no difficult downloads, and nothing is locked. Made for Apple silicon Macs. Source on GitHub.

The license at a glance

From superwhisper's docs pages Plans & Pricing, Activate Your License and Manage Your Subscription, read October 9 and 10, 2026. US dollars.

Every paid plan has the same features. Only the billing differs. The superwhisper pricing page works out which one costs less for how long you plan to use it.

What the trial is, and what stays free

There is no time limit on the trial: it is counted in words. After 3,000 words with Pro features, superwhisper moves you to its Free plan, which keeps unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, custom vocabulary, text replacements, and up to two modes without AI processing. Its docs say nothing you dictate on the Free plan leaves your device.

What stops at that point: cloud models, the Cohere Transcribe and Parakeet local models, file transcription, AI modes, context awareness, realtime transcription and speaker separation. The free plan is real dictation, without the AI cleanup that most people buy superwhisper for.

Activate the license

• Mac. Open superwhisper's settings, click the superwhisper button in the bottom-left corner, and type or paste the key, keeping the capital letters. A PRO badge with your email confirms it.
• Windows. Click the tray icon to open settings, open the license panel, and enter the same key.
• iPhone. Scan the QR code shown in the Mac's license panel, or open the iOS app's Settings, Superwhisper Pro, and enter the key.
• Android. Tap the gear icon, tap your plan, then Already have a license, and scan the QR code or type the key.

The key arrives by email after you buy on superwhisper.com. If you bought inside the iPhone app instead, the key is under Settings, Superwhisper Pro, Reveal License Key, and it activates your Mac and PC too.

Cancel, refund, or change plan

• Cancel. Sign in at superwhisper.com/billing and choose Cancel subscription. Pro stays active until the end of the period, then the account moves to Free. Your modes, vocabulary and history stay on your device.
• Refund. Use the refund request form on superwhisper.com within 30 days of your first purchase and confirm from the email it sends. Renewal charges are not refundable on their own.
• App Store or Google Play purchases. Apple or Google handles the billing and any refund, not superwhisper.
• Move to Lifetime. Buy Lifetime, then email support from the same address, and they refund the unused part of your subscription.

The cancellation page has each path step by step.

Where to buy

superwhisper recommends its own website: its docs say the price is lower there, the key arrives by email, and discounts only apply to purchases made on superwhisper.com. Buying inside the iOS App Store costs more, and student and non-profit discounts cannot be applied there.

No license at all

YapToText has no license, no key and no trial counter, because it has no paid tier. It is free on the Mac App Store, with cleanup, modes, file transcription and editing by voice all included, and both the speech model and the cleanup model run on the Mac. The trade is reach: it runs on Apple silicon Macs only, and superwhisper covers Windows and phones under one key.

superwhisper from its docs, read October 9 and 10, 2026. YapToText from its settings and App Store listing.
