Wispr Flow's free plan: what you get, where it stops, and what Pro adds

Wispr Flow has a free plan, and it is limited by words: 2,000 a week on a Mac or Windows PC and 1,000 a week on a phone. The count resets on Sunday. Pro removes the limit for $15 a month, or $144 a year. You do not need a credit card to start, and Wispr's help center describes a 14-day Pro trial at signup.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from wisprflow.ai or its help center, read on October 9 and 10, 2026.

What happens at the word cap

  • On a Mac or PC, up to 2,000 words. Dictation works normally.
  • From 2,000 to 5,000. Dictation keeps working, and the Home tab shows 0 words left.
  • Past 5,000. The next dictation is refused before it records, until the weekly reset.
  • On an iPhone. At 1,000 words dictation continues but slows down. At 1,500 a card blocks new dictations.
  • On Android. A heads-up at 800 words, a limit card at 1,000, and a hard stop at 1,500.
  • The reset. Once a week, on Sunday. Wispr's troubleshooting article gives the time as Sunday 23:45 UTC, and says app messages that read 12 a.m. Pacific do not match it. Unused words do not carry over.

Desktop and mobile are counted separately, and the limit applies to dictation only.

How far 2,000 words goes

In the Stanford study on the dictation speed page, people dictated at 153 words a minute. At that pace 2,000 words is about 13 minutes of talking a week. That covers a few emails and messages a day. It does not cover drafting documents by voice, a day of dictated prompts, or anyone who has stopped typing for health reasons. If dictation is how you write, you will meet the cap in the first day or two. The dictation speed page has the study and its limits.

The free trial

A new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, and a referral link from an existing user makes it 30 days, per Wispr's help center. When it ends you drop to the free plan unless you subscribe. Paid plans, student plans and trials have no weekly limit.

Free without a cap

YapToText is free in a different way: there is no word quota and no weekly or monthly allowance, because the speech model runs on your Mac and there is nothing for me to meter. It has no account and no paid tier. Tips are optional and unlock nothing.
