Wispr Flow word limit not resetting: the real reset time, and how to refresh the count
By Ryleigh Newman · Published
Wispr Flow's free weekly allowance resets on Sunday at 23:45 UTC, and you cannot change that time. Wispr's help center says the in-app messages that read Sunday, 12 a.m. PT do not match the actual reset. If the count still shows last week's words after that, quit Flow and reopen it. Sign out only as a last resort, because signing out deletes local history.
I built YapToText, a dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 11, 2026.
This app is completely free. You don't have to make an account. There are no subscriptions, no difficult downloads, and nothing is locked. Made for Apple silicon Macs. Source on GitHub.

When the reset happens where you are
The UTC time is from Wispr Flow's help center, read October 11, 2026. The others are that time converted, and move an hour later during daylight saving time.
| Zone | Reset time |
|---|---|
| UTC | Sunday 23:45 |
| London, in winter | Sunday 11:45 PM |
| New York, on standard time | Sunday 6:45 PM |
| Los Angeles, on standard time | Sunday 3:45 PM |
If it is Sunday morning in the United States and your count has not reset, it is not late. The reset is still hours away.
The free limits
From the same article.
| Platform | Soft cap | Hard cap |
|---|---|---|
| Mac and Windows | 2,000 words | 5,000 words |
| iPhone and Android, one shared pool | 1,000 words | 1,500 words |
On a computer, dictation continues past the soft cap. Once you pass the hard cap, the next dictation is rejected before recording starts. The Home card is titled with the words you have left and shows 0 words left at the soft cap, so a zero there does not yet mean you are blocked. The free plan page covers what the plan includes.
What counts and what does not
- Only the Free plan has weekly limits. Pro, Student, Pro Trial, Growth and Enterprise have none.
- Dictation counts. Notetaker does not.
- Instruct-mode dictations stay in history but do not count toward the weekly total.
- Desktop and phone differ. iPhone and Android share one pool. Desktop is counted separately, so different numbers on a Mac and a phone do not mean a reset was missed.
- Plan status is checked per platform. A past-due or paused subscription counts as paid on iPhone but not on a Mac, so a limit can appear on the Mac while the phone shows none.
Refresh the count
- Quit Flow completely. On a Mac, choose Quit Wispr Flow from its menu bar icon.
- Reopen Flow.
- Check the count again.
Refreshing does not erase words already used this week. A dictation blocked by the limit also makes the desktop app recheck your usage by itself. On Android, clearing the app's storage does not renew the allowance: it signs you out, and your account's usage applies again after you sign back in.
Sign out only as a last resort
The help center lists what signing out clears on a Mac: local transcript history, dictionary entries and notes, plus local Notetaker and meeting data, calendar events, Instruct history and local backups. Whether it comes back depends on your storage settings.
- Click your avatar or name to open the Account window.
- Click Manage account, then Account in the Settings sidebar.
- Click Sign out at the bottom and confirm.
- Sign back in.
Two warnings from the same article. Do not use Delete all transcripts to refresh usage, because it deletes your whole transcription history. On an iPhone, Delete account sits directly below Sign out and is permanent.
If you paid and still see a limit
On a Mac, open Settings, Plans and Billing and click refresh. If the plan is right and the limit remains, contact support through Help, Talk to support, with your platform, the reset time you expected, the count shown and a screenshot. The sync page covers a plan that is missing on one device.
Dictation with no count
A weekly counter exists because each Flow dictation costs Wispr server time. YapToText, the free app I built, transcribes on your own Apple silicon Mac, so there is no word count, no weekly reset and no paid tier. It is Mac only and has no phone app. The free dictation apps page compares the free options, capped and uncapped.

The short version
- Reset. Sunday 23:45 UTC, which is Sunday afternoon or evening in the Americas.
- Not reset after that. Quit and reopen Flow.
- Mac and phone differ. Normal. They are counted separately.
- Sign out. Last resort. It deletes local history.
- No cap. A paid plan, or an app that runs on the Mac.
If Wispr changes the reset time, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.

Questions
When does the Wispr Flow word limit reset?
Sunday at 23:45 UTC, by Wispr's help center. It says app messages that read Sunday, 12 a.m. PT do not match the actual reset time.
Why has my Wispr Flow word limit not reset?
Either the reset time has not arrived yet, or the app is showing a stale count. Quit Flow completely and reopen it.
Why do my Mac and iPhone show different Wispr Flow word counts?
Desktop and mobile are counted separately. iPhone and Android share one mobile pool, and the desktop has its own.
Does signing out reset the Wispr Flow word limit?
No. Only the weekly reset renews the allowance, and signing out deletes local history on that device.
Does Notetaker count toward the Wispr Flow word limit?
No. The help center says limits apply to dictation, not Notetaker.
