How to delete Wispr Flow history, and what deleting it does not remove
By Ryleigh Newman · Published
Wispr Flow keeps your dictations in a history on each device, and it can also keep them on its servers. Those are separate. Wispr's own help center warns that deleting local history does not necessarily remove copies already uploaded to its servers. This page covers deleting one transcript, clearing everything, turning on automatic deletion, and the cloud settings that decide what Wispr keeps.
I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10, 2026.
This app is completely free. You don't have to make an account. There are no subscriptions, no difficult downloads, and nothing is locked. Made for Apple silicon Macs. Source on GitHub.

Delete one transcript
From Wispr Flow's help article Delete transcripts and history, read October 10, 2026. Deleted transcripts cannot be restored.
| Platform | How |
|---|---|
| Mac and Windows | On the Hub home page, hover over the transcript, open More options, choose Delete transcript, and confirm Yes, delete it |
| iPhone | In the history tab, long-press the row, tap Delete, and confirm. Swiping left does not offer Delete |
| Android | On the home page, tap More options on the card, tap Delete, and confirm |
On desktop the row disappears and a Transcript deleted message shows before the deletion is confirmed, and a failure shows no error, so the message alone does not prove it worked. On Android, deleting a transcript also removes its audio, but the audio file can stay behind if that removal fails.
Clear everything, or delete automatically
From Wispr Flow's help articles, read October 10, 2026. On Mac and Windows: Settings, Data and Privacy.
| Local data storage | What it does |
|---|---|
| Store data locally | The default. Keeps transcripts on your devices |
| Auto-delete local data every 24hrs | Deletes history older than 24 hours, starting at once, after you confirm with Enable auto-delete |
| Never store data locally | Deletes all history at once and stops saving new transcripts, after you confirm with Delete all data |
Both deleting options cover dictation transcripts, polish history and Instruct history, and the choice syncs to your other Mac and Windows devices. Notetaker transcripts are managed separately. Either deleting option also hides the voice profile features. On desktop, a local backup can keep deleted transcripts until the next successful backup.
On iPhone there is no delete all. Turn on Automatically delete transcripts in Settings, Data and privacy: it keeps today's transcripts and clears the rest when you sign in or open Flow, not on a rolling 24 hours.
What Wispr keeps on its servers
From Wispr Flow's help article Manage data sharing, cloud storage and local history, read October 10, 2026. Both save at once, with no confirmation.
| Switch | What it controls | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Dictation cloud storage | Stores your transcripts, audio and history on Wispr's servers for use across devices | On, where available |
| Improve the model for everyone | Lets Wispr use your dictation and Notetaker content to improve its models | On |
- Turn off the model switch before confidential work. The help center says to do this before recording. Turning it off does not stop cloud processing.
- Metadata still goes up. With sharing off, Flow still uploads word count, duration, app, URL, timestamp, microphone, detected language and edit statistics.
- Reports are kept. A dictation you report is retained by Wispr and can be used to train and evaluate its models.
- Organizations can lock settings. You can always choose a stricter option, but not a looser one than your organization allows.
For a copy of your data or deletion of your account data on Wispr's side, the help center has a separate data request process. The Wispr Flow privacy page covers HIPAA and zero data retention.
How YapToText handles history
Wispr Flow from its help center, read October 10, 2026. YapToText from its own settings.
| Wispr Flow | YapToText | |
|---|---|---|
| Where history lives | On your devices, and on Wispr's servers with cloud storage on | Only on your Mac |
| Default | Store data locally | The last 500, items older than 30 days deleted |
| Automatic deletion | Every 24 hours, or never store | After 7, 30 or 90 days, This session only, or Clear history when I quit |
| Delete one | More options, Delete transcript | Delete on the entry, which also deletes its audio |
| Model training | On by default, can be switched off | None, nothing is sent |
YapToText has no server copy to worry about, because nothing it hears or writes leaves the Mac. The History help page covers its settings.
This app is completely free. You don't have to make an account. There are no subscriptions, no difficult downloads, and nothing is locked. Made for Apple silicon Macs. Source on GitHub.
