Uninstall Wispr Flow from a Mac: the app, the leftover files, the permissions and your data

Moving Wispr Flow to the Trash removes the app and leaves the rest: its data folders in your Library, its login item, and its permissions. Its help center lists each one. Removing the app also does not cancel a subscription or delete your account, and those are separate steps.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10, 2026. The articles are Uninstall Flow and remove local data, Delete transcripts and history, and Data requests.

Before you remove it

  • Save what you need. Deleting Flow's data folders permanently removes local dictation history, meeting notes, recordings, settings and your signed-in session.
  • Signing out deletes too. The desktop sign-out prompt says it will delete your recent transcript history. Only account-synced data comes back after you sign in again.
  • A subscription keeps billing. Uninstalling does not cancel it. The guide to cancelling Wispr Flow covers each way you might be billed.
  • A work Mac. On a managed device, ask IT first. The article says an organization can reinstall Flow automatically.

Remove the app

  1. Quit Flow from its menu bar icon and let it finish.
  2. Open Activity Monitor, search for Wispr Flow, and stop any remaining Wispr processes, including Wispr Flow Helper.
  3. In Finder, open Applications and move Wispr Flow to the Trash.
  4. Open System Settings, General, Login Items, and remove Flow.

The article warns against force-quitting too early, because an in-progress save can be lost.

Remove the leftover files

In Finder, press Shift-Command-G, paste each location, and move the named items to the Trash. Some may not exist on your Mac.

From Wispr Flow's help article, read October 10, 2026.

LocationItems to remove
~/Library/Application Support/Wispr Flow, and Flow
~/Library/Application Support/Caches/Wispr Flow
~/Library/Logs/Wispr Flow
~/Library/Preferences/com.wispr.flowapp.plist, com.electron.wispr-flow.plist and com.electron.wispr-flow.accessibility-mac-app.plist
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.wispr.flowapp.savedState
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.wispr.flowapp
~/Library/Caches/com.wispr.flowapp and com.electron.wispr-flow

Delete only the items named for Wispr Flow, never the Library folder or another parent folder. Then review the Trash and empty it.

Clear its permissions

Permissions stay behind after the app is gone. In System Settings, Privacy & Security, remove or turn off the entries for both Wispr Flow and Wispr Flow Helper under Accessibility, Microphone, Screen Recording, Full Disk Access and Bluetooth, wherever they are listed. Accessibility has to be removed by hand. For the others, the article gives three Terminal commands:

tccutil reset Microphone com.electron.wispr-flow
tccutil reset ScreenCapture com.electron.wispr-flow
tccutil reset SystemPolicyAllFiles com.electron.wispr-flow

What happens: macOS forgets the Microphone, Screen Recording and Full Disk Access grants for the app.

Delete history without uninstalling

  • One transcript. On the Hub home page, hover over it, open More options, choose Delete transcript, and confirm.
  • Everything, and from now on. Settings, Data and Privacy, Local data storage. Choose Auto-delete local data every 24hrs, or Never store data locally, which deletes all history at once.
  • What it does not reach. The article says deleting local history does not necessarily remove copies already uploaded to Wispr's servers.

The Wispr Flow privacy page covers what is uploaded and the settings that control it.

Delete the account and what Wispr holds

  1. Request an export first if you want a copy. It is built in the Mac or Windows app and stays available for 30 days.
  2. Open Settings, then Account.
  3. Select Delete account and read the warning.
  4. Type your exact account email and select Confirm.

The article says this removes the account with its dictation history, audio, meeting content, notes, dictionary and preferences, and that deletion can take up to thirty days to complete. Two cautions from the same article: deleting the account cancels a Wispr-billed subscription immediately with no refund, and it does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Billing and invoice records are kept.

On Windows, iPhone and Android

  • Windows. Uninstall from Settings, Apps, then remove the Wispr Flow folders the article lists under AppData, LocalAppData and ProgramData, and its Startup shortcut.
  • iPhone. Sign out in Menu, Account, remove the keyboard under Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, then delete the app.
  • Android. There is no in-app account deletion. The article says to send a request through Report an issue, Account management.

Dictating on the Mac afterward

YapToText is free, has no account and no subscription, and runs its speech and cleanup models on the Mac. Removing it is simpler because it is a sandboxed App Store app: its settings, history and saved audio live in one container, and Erase All Data in its settings clears them. The Wispr Flow alternative page compares the two, and the Apple Dictation guide covers the one already on your Mac.

The short version

  • App. Quit, stop the helper, Trash, remove the login item.
  • Files. Seven Library locations.
  • Permissions. Remove Accessibility by hand, and reset the rest with tccutil.
  • History. Settings, Data and Privacy, Local data storage.
  • Account. Settings, Account, Delete account. Cancel store subscriptions separately.

If Wispr Flow changes where it keeps files, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
