Wispr Flow sync across devices: what follows your account and what stays on each device

Wispr Flow syncs your subscription, dictionary, snippets, languages and writing styles to every device where you sign in with the same account and the same sign-in method. Dictation history does not sync: each device lists the dictations recorded on it. Shortcuts, microphone and sounds are also set per device.

I built YapToText, a dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 11, 2026.

What syncs and what stays local

From Wispr Flow's article Sync Flow across your devices, read October 11, 2026.

DataWhat Wispr's help center says
SubscriptionFollows your account on Mac, Windows and Android. Billing stays with the provider or store you bought from
Dictionary and snippetsSupported entries sync across your devices
Languages and writing stylesSupported preferences sync across your devices
StatisticsTotal words, words per minute and weekly counts sync. Daily counts stay local
Shortcuts, microphone and soundsSet per device. Another device does not copy them
Dictation historyEach device lists the dictations recorded on that device

One exception on iPhone: a language you already chose on the phone stays selected, whatever the account says. The wrong language page covers that case.

Set up a second device

  1. Install Flow from its downloads page or your phone's app store.
  2. Sign in with the same email and the same sign-in method you used first. On a computer, sign-in opens in the browser.
  3. Check the account the browser offers. If it is the wrong one, choose to log in with another account.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code from your email if a Check your email page appears.
  5. Compare the account email and plan on each device's Account screen.

Most missing-subscription cases are the same email with a different sign-in method, which Flow treats as a different account. The help center says to compare the email and method on both devices before buying again, and that accounts cannot be merged.

If your plan is missing on a Mac or PC

  1. Open Settings, Plans and Billing.
  2. Click the refresh button in the header.
  3. Wait for the result before trying again.

Success reads Your plan is up to date with your account. If the subscription could not be confirmed, your current access is kept, and the control will not downgrade paid access. The desktop app also picks up plan changes by itself while it is awake and online.

If words or preferences are missing

Dictionary and preference changes can take several minutes or longer to arrive. The help center says five minutes is not a guaranteed maximum.

  1. Add a test word to the dictionary on one device.
  2. Open Dictionary on the other device and look for it.
  3. Restart Flow and look again if it has not arrived.

If you edit the same preference on two devices before both are up to date, one version can replace the other. Change it on one device and confirm it arrived before editing it elsewhere. Flow's data folder on a Mac is ~/Library/Application Support/Wispr Flow, and there is no setting to move it.

Before you sign out

Signing out is not a harmless way to force a sync. On a computer it deletes local transcripts, dictionary entries, notes, meetings and calendar events. Account-synced content reloads when you sign back in, but local-only history may not return. On Android, sign-out permanently deletes that device's transcripts and audio.

An automatic session expiry does not do this: the desktop keeps local data. Deleting Wispr Flow history and the login page cover the related steps.

The other way to keep things in step

Sync exists because Flow is an account-based cloud service on four platforms. YapToText, the free app I built, is the opposite design: one Apple silicon Mac, no account, and nothing synced or backed up by the app. Settings, modes, dictionaries and history sit in the app's container on that Mac. That means no second device to keep in step, and also no way to carry your dictionary to another computer through the app. If you dictate on a phone and a PC as well, Flow's sync is a real advantage.

The short version

  • Syncs. Plan, dictionary, snippets, languages, styles, total statistics.
  • Does not sync. History, shortcuts, microphone, sounds.
  • Plan missing. Same email and same sign-in method, then refresh in Plans and Billing.
  • Words missing. Wait some minutes, then restart Flow.
  • Signing out. Deletes local data on that device.

If Wispr changes what syncs, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
