Wispr Flow on Windows: how to install it, what it needs, and where it does not run

Wispr Flow runs on Windows 10 and 11 with an x64 processor. Windows on ARM, including Snapdragon PCs, is not supported: the app shows Unsupported Windows Architecture and quits. The standard installer needs no administrator rights and installs for your user account.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10, 2026. YapToText is a Mac app only, so on Windows I have nothing to sell you. The articles are Installing Wispr Flow on Windows and Supported devices and system requirements.

What it needs

From Wispr Flow's help article Supported devices and system requirements, read October 10, 2026.

Requirement
Windows dictationWindows 10 or 11, x64. 8 GB of memory recommended, about 200 MB free
Windows Notetaker16 GB of memory and 2 GB of free storage
Windows on ARM, SnapdragonNot supported
Virtual machines and remote desktopsListed as not supported

Install it

  1. Download the Windows installer from wisprflow.ai.
  2. Double-click it in your Downloads folder. The file may be named WisprFlowInstaller.exe or Wispr Flow Setup with a version number.
  3. Wait. The installer downloads about 340 MB, and its window has no close button.
  4. Open Wispr Flow from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut and finish onboarding.

Official releases are signed by Wispr AI, Inc., so a download from wisprflow.ai should not say Unknown Publisher. SmartScreen can still show Windows protected your PC for a brand-new release. The article says to continue only for an official download.

Allow the microphone

  1. In setup, click Open Settings. Windows opens Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone.
  2. Turn on Microphone access.
  3. Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.

Windows setup asks only for the microphone. There is no Accessibility permission step as there is on a Mac.

Where it lives, and starting at login

The standard install goes to the WisprFlow folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%. Machine-wide installs in Program Files are for IT-managed PCs and need administrator rights. Flow turns on Launch app at login by itself on the first launch. Change it in Settings, System, App settings. Closing the main window does not quit Flow. It keeps running in the system tray, where a single click opens it again.

Common Windows errors

  • Unsupported Windows Architecture. The PC has an ARM processor. Flow does not run there.
  • Update admin settings to paste. The app you are typing in runs with higher privileges. Run Flow as Administrator. The page on text not pasting has the rest.
  • Microphone access is disabled. Use Open Settings and turn on both microphone switches.
  • It does not start at login. Antivirus software or a locked file can block the startup shortcut without an error. Open Flow once to refresh it.

If Wispr Flow does not fit your PC

The page on Wispr Flow alternatives by platform covers Windows, Linux and phones, including free and open source options. If you also use a Mac, YapToText is free there and runs with no connection. The Wispr Flow alternative page compares the two on a Mac.

If Wispr adds ARM support, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
