The Wispr Flow student discount: the free plan, who qualifies, and how to claim it

Wispr Flow recognizes students automatically at signup, from a listed university domain or an address ending in .edu. Its help center says selected student accounts on Mac, Windows and iPhone qualify for an annual $0 plan with no credit card, and that other recognized students get paid student pricing. An educational address alone does not guarantee the free plan.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10, 2026. The article is Request a Flow discount or fix student pricing. Wispr's website has described the student offer in other ways, so check what the app shows you before you count on a price.

How student pricing works

  • Recognition. Automatic, from your signup email. A listed university domain, a domain ending in .edu, or one containing .edu. There is no document to upload on this path.
  • The free plan. An annual $0 plan for selected student accounts, with no credit card. There is no monthly free student plan.
  • Everyone else. Recognized students who are not offered the free plan see paid student pricing.
  • Not recognized. Personal addresses and campus domains that meet none of the conditions. Student checkout is refused for those accounts.
  • On Android. Student plans are not sold through Google Play, and a student plan bought elsewhere is honored there.

Claim it

  1. Sign up for Wispr Flow with your school email.
  2. On a Mac or PC, open Settings, then Plans and Billing.
  3. Select Claim Free Plan if it is offered, or Claim for free in the plans grid.
  4. Check the Student card afterward. It should show Free with a renewal date.

If you do not see a free option, your account was not selected for it, and the Pro card shows the paid student price.

If you already pay for Pro

  • Desktop Pro. Where the free offer applies, a desktop Pro subscription can switch to Student without another checkout.
  • Ask first. The article says to ask support about the plan-change path before buying again, because a second purchase is a real charge.
  • App Store subscribers. They cannot claim or switch on desktop. Apple manages those subscriptions and refunds.
  • Going back. Switching from Student to Pro is not supported in the app.

Other discounts Wispr accepts

From Wispr Flow's help article, read October 10, 2026. Every category requires verification.

CategoryExample of what to send
StudentA current student ID or enrollment letter
Education, not a studentProof of educator or staff eligibility
Non-profitRegistered non-profit details
MilitaryActive-duty or veteran documentation
Senior citizenAge confirmation
Accessibility supportDocumentation supporting the request

The individual discounts exclude Team, Business and Enterprise subscriptions.

Send a discount request

  1. In the Mac or Windows app, open Help, Talk to support, Report an issue.
  2. Set Request Type to Billing.
  3. Choose your Discount Request category.
  4. Write your message and attach one verification image: PNG, JPEG, BMP or WebP, up to 10 MB.
  5. Select Send message.

The desktop form does not take PDFs. For a PDF, use Get Support on wisprflow.ai/support, which is also the route if you only have a phone. Support emails the outcome, and a submitted request is not confirmation that an offer was applied.

What the prices are

The help article describes how the discounts work, not the amounts. The Wispr Flow pricing page has every plan and price I have checked, and the promo code page compares the student offer as Wispr's different pages describe it.

Free without verification

YapToText is free for everyone, so there is nothing to verify: no school email, no account, no word cap. It runs on an Apple silicon Mac, with the speech model on the computer, so it works in a lecture hall with bad Wi-Fi. It is Mac only, where Wispr Flow also covers Windows and phones. The dictation for students guide covers essays, lectures and notes.

The short version

  • Recognized by. Your signup email.
  • Free plan. Annual, $0, for selected accounts.
  • Otherwise. Paid student pricing.
  • Claim. Settings, Plans and Billing, on a computer.
  • Other discounts. Educators, non-profits, military, seniors and accessibility, with verification.

If Wispr changes its student offer, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
