Wispr Flow on iPad: it is not supported, and here is what its help center lists

If Wispr Flow is not working on your iPad, it is not something you did. Wispr's help center says plainly that iPad is not supported. The iOS app is for iPhone only. This page lists what Flow does run on, straight from its requirements page, and what you can use on an iPad in the meantime.

I built YapToText, a dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 11, 2026.

What Wispr Flow runs on

From Wispr Flow's help article Supported devices and system requirements, read October 11, 2026.

PlatformWhat it needs
MacmacOS 12 Monterey or later, Apple silicon or Intel. 8 GB of memory recommended
WindowsWindows 10 or 11, x64 processor. 8 GB of memory recommended
iPhoneiOS 18.3 or later, iPhone only. The app runs in portrait only
AndroidAndroid 13 or newer, a smartphone with an accelerometer

The same article says iPad, Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines and remote desktop environments are not supported. Android tablets and foldables may work but are not officially optimized.

Dictating on an iPad without it

An iPad has dictation built in: the microphone key on the onscreen keyboard types what you say into any text field. It is Apple's own feature: in Settings, General, Keyboard, turn on Enable Dictation. Apple says it is processed on the device in many languages. It will not do Flow's rewriting, but it needs nothing installed. If you have an iPhone, Flow works there, and the iPhone and Android page covers the keyboard setup.

If you write on a Mac as well

Flow runs on a Mac, and so does YapToText, the app I make. YapToText is Mac only: no iPad, iPhone, Windows or Android version. On a Mac it types into any app with one key, runs on the device with no account, and is free. The Wispr Flow alternative page compares the two.

The short version

  • iPad. Not supported by Wispr Flow.
  • iPhone. Supported, iOS 18.3 or later.
  • On the iPad now. The keyboard's microphone key.
  • Also not supported. Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines.

If Wispr adds iPad support, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
