Wispr Flow will not open, shows a blank window, or is stuck after sign-in: what to do
By Ryleigh Newman · Published
If you finished signing in through the browser and Wispr Flow never appeared, check first whether it is already running: click its icon in the menu bar or the Dock to open the hub window. If there is an error message, match it to the table below. If the window is blank white, quit and reopen Flow, and reinstall if it comes back.
I built YapToText, a dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10 and 11, 2026.
This app is completely free. You don't have to make an account. There are no subscriptions, no difficult downloads, and nothing is locked. Made for Apple silicon Macs. Source on GitHub.

Quick checks on a Mac
- Click Flow's menu bar icon, or its Dock icon, to open the hub window. Right after launch, wait a moment and click again.
- If there is no icon, open Finder, Applications, Wispr Flow.
- If the sign-in attempt may have gone stale, choose Sign in via browser in Flow and complete a fresh one.
- If a Check your email page appears, enter the 6-digit code. You get up to five tries, and can request a new code after 30 seconds.
On the browser's success page you have to select Open Wispr Flow. The app does not open by itself. The login page covers wrong passwords and sign-in methods.
Match the message
From Wispr Flow's help article on the app not starting after sign-in, read October 10, 2026.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Unsupported MacOS Version | Update to macOS 12 or later, which the app requires |
| Incorrect App Version, on an Apple silicon Mac | Download the Apple silicon build, not the Intel one |
| Move Flow to Applications folder | Move the app to Applications and launch it there |
| The Mac says Flow is damaged, missing or zero bytes | Download a fresh copy from Wispr's downloads page and reinstall |
| Blank white window | Quit and reopen Flow. If it recurs, reinstall |
| Flow hit a snag | Choose Restart Flow, or Contact us if crashes continue |
| Your network isn't allowed | Connect to an approved network or ask your administrator, then sign in again |
| Unsupported Windows Architecture | Install on x64 Windows, which the installer requires |
Update, restart, then reinstall
Try Check for updates from Flow's menu first. If Flow does not respond at all, quit it fully, restart the Mac and test again before reinstalling.
- Quit Flow from its menu bar menu.
- Move Wispr Flow from Applications to the Trash.
- Download the latest Mac installer from Wispr's downloads page.
- Drag the app into Applications and open it from there.
- Select Sign in via browser and finish. The main window opens when sign-in succeeds.
One warning from the help center: signing out, resetting or reinstalling can clear local history and caches. Synced content returns after you log in, but local-only content may not, so save what you need first. Uninstalling Wispr Flow covers removing every file.
If a sign-in message appears where the app should be
- Unable to open Wispr Flow, with an inactive button. Go back to Flow and start a fresh sign-in.
- Waiting for a provider. Finish that provider's login in the browser before returning.
- Couldn't open the sign-in page. Check that a browser is installed and enabled.
- Sign-in didn't finish. Try again. Some providers offer a Try again button, and others have to be restarted from the beginning.
Still stuck
The help center says to email Wispr's support with what you see. The error messages page covers messages that appear once Flow is open, and the Flow bar page covers a missing bar when the app itself is running.
An app with no sign-in to get stuck on
Every step above exists because Flow needs an account before it can do anything. YapToText, the free dictation app I built, has no account and no sign-in: install it from the Mac App Store, grant Microphone and Accessibility, and dictate. It is Mac only, on Apple silicon, and it does not sync between devices the way Flow does. The Wispr Flow alternative page compares the two.

The short version
- Nothing appears. Click the menu bar or Dock icon. It may already be running.
- Blank white window. Quit and reopen, then reinstall.
- An error. Match it in the table.
- Reinstalling. From Applications, with a fresh download. Save local history first.
- After the browser. Select Open Wispr Flow yourself.
If Wispr changes these steps, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
