Wispr Flow bar not showing, or the bubble disappeared: how to bring it back

If the Flow Bar is missing on a Mac or PC, open Wispr Flow's settings and turn on Show Flow Bar at all times, under System, App settings. Off means the bar was hidden for good, or snoozed with Hide for 1 hour, and the switch clears both. On Android, the bubble is often hidden on purpose, for example in password fields and banking apps.

I built YapToText, a different dictation app for the Mac, so read what I say about Wispr Flow with that in mind. Every fact about Wispr Flow here comes from its own help center, read on October 10, 2026. The article is Troubleshooting the Flow Bar and Flow Bubble.

Bring back the Flow Bar on a Mac or PC

  1. Find Flow's icon: the menu bar on a Mac, the system tray on Windows, including the hidden icons.
  2. Open Wispr Flow from that icon.
  3. In Settings, System, App settings, turn on Show Flow Bar at all times.
  4. On a Mac, check System Settings, Privacy & Security, and make sure Flow is on under Accessibility and Microphone. A system update can change these.
  5. Test in a normal window in another app, outside full-screen mode.
  6. If it is still missing everywhere, quit and reopen Flow, then check the switch again.

After each step, look for the bar and dictate a short phrase. Stop when it works.

Where the bar should be

On a Mac the Flow Bar sits just above the Dock, across Spaces, and against the screen edge in a full-screen app. It disappears for a moment when you enter or leave full screen, and comes back within a couple of seconds. On Windows, the article says a third-party window manager or security tool can interfere with overlays, and that Windows restores an invisible bar by itself after sleep, a lock, or a full-screen game.

When the Android bubble hides on purpose

  • No text field. The bubble appears as the on-screen keyboard opens and hides as it closes. Focus a normal text field first.
  • Sensitive fields. It is hidden in certain banking and financial apps, password fields, numeric fields and phone-number fields.
  • Setup not finished. Setup has to be complete for the signed-in account.
  • A permission was turned off. Display over other apps is what shows the bubble. The article warns not to disable it to silence Android's overlay notice, because that removes the bubble.

On iPhone

There is no bar or bubble. iPhone dictation uses the Flow keyboard. If the keyboard is missing, the iPhone and Android page has the setup steps.

If Flow will not open at all

A missing bar and an app that will not start are different problems. The login page covers sign-in that stalls in the browser, and the troubleshooting page covers startup and transcription errors.

What YapToText shows

YapToText has no bar that stays on screen. Its panel appears while you dictate, with your voice as a wave and the words as they form, and goes away when you stop. The rest of the time it is a menu bar icon. The panel has three layouts: Expanded, Compact and Mini. The floating panel help page covers it.

The short version

  • Switch. Settings, System, App settings, Show Flow Bar at all times.
  • Snooze. Hide for 1 hour also hides it. The same switch clears it.
  • Mac. Check Accessibility and Microphone.
  • Android. Hidden in password, numeric and banking fields by design.
  • iPhone. A keyboard, not a bar.

If Wispr moves these settings, open an issue on GitHub and I will update this page. Every one gets read.
